When I used to work in a hectic IT environment, multitasking was a valuable skill to have. I thought I was so great at it too. But my motherhood took that skill to a whole new level. I think mothers are the greatest multitaskers in the world! Don’t you agree?
Whether you are working or self-employed or a stay-at-home mom, you are wearing so many hats. Being a busy, mom requires a great amount of energy, mental strength and inner calm.
BUT, to do this hardest job in the world gracefully, you gotta take care of YOURSELF first!
Most mothers tend to neglect this important aspect 💞
I was like that too for years. My life used to revolve around just my family, work and other things. While being a mother, I had a business to run and was taking care of my elderly parents. So I had 4 kids 🤗
I was taking care of everyone else other than myself.
Motherhood requires an endless amount of energy throughout the day 🌞
You see, you can get overwhelmed when you are doing everything yourself. When that happens, your inner balance is affected, then stress and mom-burnout will be the natural outcome.
That is exactly what happened to me in the past...until I finally realized I had to prioritize my health and wellbeing in order to take care of everything else much more efficiently & joyfully.
So, self-care is so vitally important for having a healthy body and mind. However, that is one of the first things that we mothers compromise. The number one complaint I get from moms is that "I don’t have time for Yoga."
I totally understand because I used to make this excuse because I always felt short on time. And I still do. In fact, I have more responsibilities now than before.
But, I don’t make it as an excuse.
I’ve learned to make self-care a priority because...
I’ve come to realize that If you don’t nurture yourself then you CANNOT nurture another human being. That is not to say that you are not enjoying your motherhood or you are not capable of taking care of your family.
But, look at it this way, if you are feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, anxious or feel physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged frequently then your ability to function at your highest is diminished.
It is that simple. And, it will have a ripple effect on your family that you love, care and value. You see, ONLY when it is manageable can motherhood be so much more enjoyable.
When things get overwhelming
I am not saying I don’t get overwhelmed now. Sometimes, I do. But, the beautiful thing is that I can bounce back easily. My daily yogic practices have been tremendous support for me in this direction. Without them, I don’t think I’d be able to go through life challenges with the least amount of friction.
In a world of quick fixes, Hatha Yoga is a must-have tool that you as a busy mom need to keep your body healthy and fit, maintain your inner calm and thoroughly enjoy motherhood without constantly feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
Love,
Bavani
